5 Step Sturdy Grass Rope Guide g

Want to learn how to make a strong rope from something everyone has unlimited supply of? It’s an easy DIY project that you can make from just grass and you can make it as long as you want. If you’re looking for a survival skill that will help you improve your odds this is it.

We will be showing how to make rope from natural fibers with a method that is thousands of years old and still used to this day, the inca rope bridge is such an example.

Requirements for our grass rope:

  • grass(duh)
  • 5 minutes

Step 1

The first thing that needs to be done is to divide the in half and rotate one section before recombining them.  Doing this will ensure that we will have an even distribution of strands  on booth directions which helps the rope to be of a  consistent strength.

Step 2

We take a small handful of  grass and nod at one end so it stays together.

Step 3

We divide the remaining side of the bundle into two even sections by grabbing each section by hand and twisting them both in the same direction. This motion causes the two strands to wrap around one another beginning to form the start of our rope. The process is pretty fast.

Step 4

When we get near the end of our starting material, simply twist new grass(from Step 1) right alongside the old. The splice created is very strong and we now have a longer tail that we can continue to create our rope from. There is no limit to the total length we can create.

Step 5

Once we’ve created enough rope for whatever task we have at hand, we can prevent it from
unraveling by making one more nod at the end. Now the rope is now ready for use.

We can make it look nicer by trimming off anything that sticks out with a knife.

Now the strength of this rope depends on its diameter and the skill with which it was made. You should be able hold about 50 pounds maybe more and larger diameters can be made simply by using more grass or by twisting multiple groups together.
